We would like to congratulate Jeanette Tousignant, PT, CKTP for successful completion of Vestibular Rehabilitation: A Competency-Based Course. This course was put on by world-renowned vestibular rehabilitation specialist Richard Clendaniel at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, and is co-sponsored by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) It’s a one-week intensive course that encompasses examination and treatment of many different types of vestibular disorders. Here’s what Jeanette has to say about her experience:
“This highly sought-after training is offered once annually for 200 students max, providing the most current information about the function of the Vestibular system and how best to assess and treat any deficits that impact mobility and quality of life. The course is designed and taught by the premier Physical Therapy practitioners in the field, who are not only treating patients regularly, but are conducting the research and publishing the results regarding best practice among Physical Therapists when treating dizziness, imbalance and a variety of vestibular deficits.
This course provides thorough hands-on training with these educators, with daily performance tests to show competency in performing the presented skills. These skills involve evaluations and treatment procedures that address vestibular deficits including Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), Unilateral Vestibular Hypofunction (UVH), Bilateral Vestibular Hypofunction (BVH), Central Nervous System disorders, CVA (Stroke), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and concussion as well as Somatoform disorders including anxiety and depression. At the completion of the week-long course, participants are invited to sit for a 2.5 hour exam with written and video patient problem-solving questions, which award them a Certificate of Competency in the Evaluation and Treatment of Vestibular Disorders as determined by the APTA standards. This is one course in a 5 course series that the APTA co-sponsors, and it is the highest level of training currently available for Physical Therapists.
This year’s course was attended by therapists from all across the US, as well as Canada, Venezuela, the UK, Australia and India.”
Please join us in congratulating Jeanette on her very hard work to bring world-class care to our patients!
