Concussions are mild Traumatic Brain Injuries that can occur due to a direct or indirect hit to the head, neck, or torso. This can happen during sports, falls, car crashes, or with exposure to explosives. Concussions change your brain chemistry and can create many different symptoms; every concussion is unique. It is important to gradually ease back into normal daily activity within symptom tolerance. We know now that the old advice of long-term rest while avoiding stimuli that create symptoms can actually delay healing and exacerbate
symptoms by causing your system to become more hypersensitive over time. We also know that overdoing it, or ignoring concussive symptoms, can delay healing and sometimes lead to more severe complications such as risk of re-injury, or even Second Impact Syndrome. Our Physical Therapists at Active Physical Therapy are experts in helping to promote healing within a safe environment so as to optimize return to sports, work, exercise, or any other daily routine.
