  • Gaming

 

Gaming can have several uses in Physical Therapy.  From creating a fun and interactive experience to challenging balance, video games can be an effective therapeutic treatment for a variety of conditions which affect balance, coordination, reaction time, strength, endurance, and others.  At Active we utilize the Nintendo® WiiFit to make Physical Therapy more fun, engaging, and challenging for patients.

  • Smart Phone Applications

 

Having trouble remembering your home exercises?  Did you lose your printout with all your notes on it?  No need to worry now! Active offers free access to Strive Hub as a way to keep track of your home exercise program.  Your Therapist can design your custom home program with sets, repetitions, descriptions and individual notes for you!  The videos included in the application are high quality, and are much more helpful than a picture. Every time you log in, your therapist can see your activity – which is a great way to help you stay focused on your progress.  Strive Hub is 100% HIPAA compliant so your privacy is protected. You can even communicate with your therapist through Strive Hub if you have questions or concerns! This is smart phone application is definitely a game-changer for patients and therapists.

 

  • Infrared Cameras

 

The Infrared Video Frenzel Lenses are utilized at our Marquette and Ishpeming locations, and are a vital part of our Vestibular Rehab Program.  The Frenzel Lenses are used to provide our therapists with a close-up look of the eyes.  The video is recorded during provocative testing of the reflexes of the vestibular system.  One advantage of the Frenzel Lenses is the ability to block out room light. Performing assessments in a vision-blocked state allows the therapist to accurately test the true reflexes of the eyes without allowing the patient fix their gaze on objects in the room.  Gaze fixation can diminish the results of provocative testing, and 

  • Aqua Therapy

 

Aqua Therapy has many benefits, and is a very specialized service.  Getting into a warm pool under guided supervision is great for off-setting the effect of gravity on the body.  This can be an effective treatment for patients who suffer from a variety of ailments including osteoarthritis, back pain, orthopedic conditions, hypertension, diabetes, and others.  The warm water aids in muscle relaxation and pain reduction, while giving the patient the opportunity to perform exercises which may not be able to be performed on land.  

 

  • Lymphedema Therapy (FLEXITOUCH® Plus)

 

If you have had radiation treatment for cancer, a mastectomy, lumpectomy, lymph node removal, surgery, traumatic injury or infection, you may be at risk for developing lymphedema.  Lymphedema is the build-up of protein-rich lymph fluid. This occurs when the lymph system is damaged. Mastectomies, lumpectomies with radiation, lymph node removal, traumatic injury and infection are the most common causes of secondary lymphedema.  The Flexitouch® System can be used as part of a comprehensive lymphedema therapy program.  Our Certified Lymphedema Therapist (LANA-CLT) Jeannie Wagner offers this service at our Marquette location, and is the only Certified Lymphedema Therapist in the Upper Peninsula.
